Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park (KMP) is a large-scale public park that was built by the Construction and Planning Agency of the Ministry of the Interior. KMP is the first regional forest park to be constructed using executive Yuan's Blueprint for the Development of Metropolitan Regional Leisure Facilities in the Taiwan Area. The park is located on the border between Kaohsiung County and Kaohsiung City. KMP provides its surrounding residents with a place for outdoor recreation and leisure. In addition to providing a leisure center, KMP also serves to protect its surrounding natural resources and to improve the local environment. To achieve theses objectives KMP encompasses a 95 hectare forest. The rest of the park is also planted with all kinds of distinctive flora, making KMP an ideal place for recreation, leisure, and environmental education.
